It’s been quite beautiful here in Phoenix…
so yesterday I decided to surprise Kurt with tickets to a Dodgers / Cubs Spring training game. Granted we’re Red Sox fans, but they’re in Florida, so we won’t be seeing them anytime soon.
Besides, we went to see Game 5 of their playoff meet-up last year, so I thought it would be fun to see a rematch.
There couldn’t have been a more beautiful day for a game! The weather was absolutely perfect with temps. in the upper 70’s and it was partly cloudy.
I was very impressed with the stadium and super psyched that we’d be sitting in seats that were completely covered in shade – the ENTIRE game! Say what???
The seats were amazing, too! I was fortunate enough to find them the day before on StubHub. Paid a bit for them as it was a sold out game, but wanted to be able to be up close as we don’t typically do that.
The Cubbies ended up winning as Bryant hit a grand slam in the fourth inning giving them a lead they would never give up.
What confused the heck out of me at the beginning of the game was the jerseys. Typically one team will be dark and the other white. Not yesterday though. As you can see, both teams were wearing their blues and it wasn’t like they were different shades of blue either. They basically matched!
Oh, well.
We each ate a foot long Chicago Dog, actually about 2/3 of each one because we couldn’t finish them. We seriously would have been content to split one.
I’m not a beer drinker, but Kurt was excited to see Cubs fans drinking Old Style beer, a Chicago favorite. I just stuck to my $6.50 standard size bottle of water. Pricey? Yes.

A good time was had by all. Except that one poor woman who was hit when a ball ricocheted off one of the tarps after an overthrow to the first baseman. She seemed to be ok and was able to walk out on her own holding a bag of ice to her head. We did see a helicopter arrive and never heard any sirens, so not sure if they took her to the hospital. I sure do hope she’s ok. Probably still has a major headache, too.
Overall, it’s a great park to go to and the stadium is really nice. Plenty of parking, food options, fun fans, and of course, some great baseball.
