This is stinking brilliant! So, what’s a middle-aged woman girl to do when she’s out of coffee creamer?
Make it from scratch, o’ course. You don’t have to head out to the store or even to the coffee shops anymore!
I don’t know if there’s anything worse than making a pot of coffee on a Sunday morning, moving into the mindset that you’re going to sit and relax while enjoying it, only to find out that there’s no creamer.
And no, I am NOT drinking my coffee black. I do have limits people!
WAIT!!!
There is something.
Pouring yourself a bowl of cereal and then going to the fridge to find out someone used the rest of the milk.
Yeah, that sucks. Communication people!
And like I really needed a cup of coffee this morning after waking up at 3 am in a coughing fit.
I was pretty psyched though, being able to sleep 4 hours in my own bed before I moved out to the couch.
At least when I woke up I had that feeling I had when the kids were infants, and gave me their first 4 hour stretch of sleep instead of waking every two hours to feed.
I was psyched, man. Then I continued coughing and couldn’t go back to sleep.
And then I took a 5-hour nap this afternoon.
I awoke after 3 hours, looked at the clock and said, “Nah.”, rolled over and went back to sleep.
Shhhh…don’t tell the family. But they were all very good to let me sleep. The girls made some cupcakes while I slept, and Mr. 365 went out to get some dinner seeing as how I slept through the lasagna making I had planned for dinner.
You’re probably wondering…
How long is Homemade Coffee Creamer good for?
Generally, it will last 7-10 days tightly sealed in your refrigerator.
You’ll also want to make note of the expiration date of your milk because that could affect it.
I found this on Mommy Savers.
I had this great idea about adding that wee bottle of Bailey’s Irish Cream to the mix.
Yes, it is alcohol, but who says you can’t start drinking at 7 am? Besides, it’s just a smidgen.
But alas, Old Mother Hubbard went to the cupboard and…the cupboard was bare.
Darn it!
I guess I already drank it and didn’t even remember.
I had a small bottle of Godiva Chocolate liquor, but I wasn’t in the mood for chocolate in my coffee.
Yes, I know, GO FIGURE!
And WHY have I never thought about making our own creamer at home before??!!
I guess it’s true that necessity IS the mother of invention.
This was SUPER easy, did the trick, and is less expensive than the fancy store-bought stuff.
It will save you money and you know exactly the ingredients you’re putting into it, none of those fancy words that you can’t pronounce.
I may never buy creamer again.

I like to enjoy this Homemade French Vanilla Coffee Creamer with a cup of coffee in my favorite mug.
My mother gave it to me over 30 years ago for my birthday.
It says, “When I think of all the things that would have never been if you had never been…
I celebrate the day you were born.”
I sure do miss her.
HOW TO MAKE HOMEMADE FRENCH VANILLA COFFEE CREAMER –
Into a container to hold at least 28 ounces, pour the milk. I like to use this ceramic milk bottle I bought on Amazon. It has a silicon lid, too.
Add the vanilla.
Carefully pour in the sweetened condensed milk.
Secure the cap tightly and shake vigorously until ingredients are thoroughly combined.
Enjoy your coffee!
Can you picture yourself enjoying a cup of coffee with your new homemade creamer while enjoying this Easy Crepe Recipe? I know I certainly can!
Homemade French Vanilla Coffee Creamer
Ingredients
- 14 ounces whole milk
- 14 ounces sweetened condensed milk
- 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
Instructions
- Into a container large enough to hold 28 ounces, pour the milk.
- Add the condensed milk.
- Add the vanilla.
- Secure the cap tightly and shake vigorously until ingredients are thoroughly combined.
Notes
Nutrition
Mr. 365 LOVED it and says not to buy any creamer again.
I’m also eager to try it with some other flavorings. I might just have to go out and buy me some more Bailey’s.
I’m partial to the Bailey’s. I used the empty creamer bottle that I had.
It just seemed logical and convenient seeing as how I didn’t have any other container to really put it in beside a square Rubbermaid container.
Oh, and don’t try to take pictures of yourself pouring the condensed milk into the small-mouthed container because you’re bound to miss and it will make a sticky mess down the side of the bottle and all over the counter.
Just sayin’.

You crack me up Lynne. I am going to try this. I am wanting to get away from all the junk in creamer and this looks like the perfect time to start trying…
It is challenging to shoot picks while prepping… I can’t tell you how many times I have missed.
Susan says
If you wanted to add the alcohol for adult after dinner time, how much would you use? Its quarantine, so why not?
Lynne says
Susan, I give you permission to add as much or as little as you like. 😉 I think that “to taste” is best. Stay safe!
Deborah Malouin says
Can I use skim milk?
Lynne says
Deborah, you most certainly can use skim milk.
Hope you like it!
Deborah Malouin says
I made it and love it😋
Lynne says
I’m so glad you liked it, Deborah, thank you so much!
Michelle Buenzli says
Any idea how long its good for? I’m the only user in my house and it takes me about two weeks to use up a big bottle.
Lynne @ 365 Days of Baking says
Michelle,
unfortunately I do not. My guess is as long as your milk is good. The milk I used expires on June 6th, but we have two people using it. Perhaps you could use only half the amount of each and refrigerate the condensed milk until the next time you make it. I can’t remember what the exp. is on the condensed milk and the can’s already gone, but that would probably be your best bet.
Thanks for the question!
Peggy says
Could you use evaporated milk
Faye says
I’ve been making this for years for my husband who likes the creamer but you can go one better and make your own sweetened condensed milk too and freeze until you need it to make creamer or for baking ..
Combine 1 1/2 cups whole milk and 1/2 cup granulated sugar in heavy saucepan …Heat over medium heat until steaming, then lower the heat and simmer for about 2 hours, or until it has thickened slightly and reduced by about half, stir in the vanilla extract. Let it cool completely. Pour into a clean, dry airtight container and store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks or you can freeze.
Beckie Dalton says
I will have to try this. Using Splenda since I am Diabetic. The Sugar free and fat free creamers taste bad.
Brandi says
Thank you! Saved me!! I didn’t have sweetened condensed milk but I did have the ingredients to make THAT!

Coffee is a brewed beverage with a bitter flavor prepared from the roasted seeds of the coffee plant. Coffee is known to be one of the most refreshing beverages throughout the world. Whether it is a black coffee, or a coffe, with eual amount of milk, it is always the best companion, when yo are waiting for some one, or anything like this.

Good grief, I haven’t had creamer for my coffee in 21 years. Now you just made me VERY happy. I have been using canned milk or fresh milk. No where near as good as VANILLA creamer! WOW! I bow down to you my recipe Queen.
Sondra Douglas says
How can I make any of these recipes Sugar-Free? Husband is diabetic. His favorite is French Vanilla. Thanks.
Lynne says
Sondra,
I would do a Google search for sugar free dairy creamer, and hopefully you’ll find something.
Heather says
You can make your own sweetened condensed milk using Splenda and then use that in the creamer recipe.

Oh K. Now you are talking! I have never made my own creamer- and golly gee I HATE it when I run out! So nice to know I have a back up recipe!!
fruitfulvine says
This recipe sounds like a perfect variation of the 3 or 4 I found while googling. Other recipes called for heating the milks, but your way sounds quick!
I would say that any creamer should be used within 10 days to 2 weeks.

Trader Joes just started selling an organic sweetened condensed milk now I have a reason to buy it and dump the commercial stuff. Thanks
Sarah Cannon Williams says
Oh to come up with other flavors as well. Like pumpkin, eggnog, hazelnut, caramel macchiato.
We will be making this in our home.
Thank you so much!
Emily says
Try other extracts to get those flavors in place of vanilla extract. You can pick up flavors like caramel, peppermint, pumpkin spice, rum, hazelnut, almond, and more on the baking aisle 🙂
Rachel (I Love My Disorganized Life) says
What a great idea! I never would have thought to used sweetened condensed milk! {LOVE that stuff!} Think I’ll try making my own peppermint creamer. Then I can have it ANY time of the year!
Anonymous says
Sounds great! I’m heading to the store for condensed milk to try it.
I’ll add Cinnamon too. It has amazing health benefits.
Doesn’t 14 + 14 still equal 28 though?

I brew my coffee with the cinnamon in the grounds. I’ll add about 2 tablespoons of cinnamon to the filter before the coffee. It smells wonderful, is good for me, and my coffee tastes great! Once it is done, I add my coffee, creamer (French vanilla, homemade) a dash of cinnamon and sometimes nutmeg to my mug. If I’m feeling randy, I’ll toss a peppermint candy in the bottom of my mug. Sounds strange, really, its amazing!!
Lynne says
That really sounds great, Jojo! Thanks for the tips!
My Cooking Journey says
This is such an awesome idea. I would have never thought of making this. We drink latte as our everyday morning coffee. Me and my husband though also love the regular coffee and we drink it 2-3 times a week. I do not like just regular milk in my coffee, so this would be what I make. i can half the recipe and use the rest of the condensed milk for some other recipe or maybe just lick it off with my kids 🙂

I love my coffee creamer–and would really like to try this. Due to diabetes, however, I need to use the sugar free creamer. Do you know of any way to cut down on the sugar in this homemade version?
Amy Hahnel says
Google for a recipe to make your own sweetened condensed milk, use honey or artificial sweetener. Use coconut milk for dairy free version also.
Anonymous says
Google a recipe for making sugar free sweetened condensed milk, they are out there. Can also make dairy free.
wendy says
Add 1-2 Tbsp of brown sugar to the creamer mix, and you have your very own Starbucks vanilla latte, without the bitterness of Starbucks coffee or the ridiculous price tag.
amanda says
A vanilla latte from starbucks doesn’t have coffee in it. Depending on the size it has shots of espresso in it.

This sounds awesome!! Does anyone know you could make the hazelnut flavored creamer? Thanks in advance. Lisa Y.

Alice Mendez says
This recipe sounds amazing, but since I’m the only one to use creamer, I’m afraid it will go bad before I use it all. Do have any yummy “dry mix” recipes?
Lynne says
Alice, unfortunately I don’t, but that’s a great idea. will have to work on that one.
Heather says
I too has the problem with getting it all in the container and not down the sides. I went and bought a kitchen funnel and that eliminated the mess.

Torani makes a whole slew of syrups that are used in making flavored coffees in places like Starbucks. They come in both sugared and sugar free. I have used these syrups for adding flavor (Irish Cream especially!) to my batters, and, as I don’t drink alcohol, they are REALLY useful. You can find the brand in almost any large grocery store (I find it in Safeway and Smart & Final here). Go to Torani.com and wander through their offerings! bernie

Brooke says
Wow.. I was skeptical thinking no way a coffee creamer could be this easy to make. It was even better than the creamer I bought from the store. It was frothy on top from being shaken and had the perfect sweet and nutty taste of coffee. This is my new go to recipe when I want creamer!
Lynne says
Thank you, Brooke. I am so happy to hear that!
Miriam says
So excited about this! Where did you get your cute little brown mug and creamer set? I’m a mug addict lol.
Lynne says
Miriam, I got the brown mug and creamer jar at a shop in Sedona, AZ where they sell crafts from local artists.
Jane Weller says
OMG! I’ve still have a bottle of Bailey’s in my fridge. I think it was waiting for this recipe. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe! I have milk bought straight from a dairy farm and it can last up to two weeks. Is this going to make my creamer last longer than 6-7 days??
Shannah Scott says
Looked on Amazon for your cute white creamer bottle and can’t find one like it. Can you share the name of the bottle, what you searched for, etc.? Thank you!
Lynne says
Shannah, the bottom of the bottle says ‘The Monkey and the Peddler’. I got it years ago and can’t remember exactly where. But when I did a search for it, I did find this. Perhaps if this one isn’t available, you’ll be able to find one on Ebay.

I like cinnamon french vanilla coffee creamer. I find that the cinnamon just floats around on the cream. do you have any suggestions?
what I am truly looking for is a real clone of Nestle cinnamon french vanilla coffee creamer thank you
Lynne says
Sharyn, I’ve found a couple of suggestions on Google though I’ve never tried them.
1) Probably the best way is to sprinkle the desired amount of cinnamon over your coffee grounds before brewing. This will work with a dip coffee machine or pour-over.
2) Dissolve it separately using a small amount of warm water or honey. Once dissolved, you can add it to your coffee and then add the creamer.
I’ll have to work on a cinnamon creamer, too. Thanks for the suggestion and I hope that one of these works for you in the meantime.
Candi Hackney says
Can you use vanilla flavoring instead of the extract?
Lynne says
Candi, you can definitely try it with the vanilla flavoring, though I haven’t and not sure how it would taste. I know pure vanilla extract can be a bit more costly naw.
Valerie Nation says
This does not taste anything like the store bought creamers. Making it just like the recipe, all I tasted is the sweetened condensed milk. Yuck. I will continue to try to tweak it but my opinion is that my time is worth more than pennies and I’d rather just buy what I already like at the store.
Lynne says
Hey Valerie,
Thank you for trying the recipe. There are many who like it, but as with every recipe on the web and in cookbooks, not everything will appeal to everyone.
I appreciate your honest feedback.
Pam Bennett says
I can’t wait to make some and try it! Thanks for the recipe.
Lynne says
You’re welcome, Pam. Enjoy it!
MEPCO says
Thanks for the good info.
Jamie says
Tastes great! My go to creamer at the store changed and is no longer 3 ingredients. So I thought I would give this a try. Well, easy to make and tweak too. I used organic fat free milk when I made. I do find this very sweet, so I just added more milk to my taste. Very yummy, fast and easy. This will be my new creamer. Thanks for a great recipe!
Lynne says
Jamie, that’s awesome, thank you! I’m so glad it’s worked out so well for you and appreciate the feedback!
Iesco Bill says
This sounds awesome! Would love to try this

Such a nice post. Keep it up.
Susie says
I did not like this at all. I either drink my coffee black or with a little French vanilla creamer. I filled my coffee cup with the regular amount, that I use with store bought creamer, and the coffee was bitter. Second cup I added more, and more, and more. There was never a sweet, creamy, vanilla taste at all. I ended up pouring out that cup and drinking my third cup black. It just did not have a good taste at all. (I even used whole milk so that it would be richer). Waste of money.
Lynne says
Susie, I’m sorry to hear that the recipe wasn’t for you. I thank you for giving it a try though and letting me know your thoughts, good or bad.
I am confused at your five star rating though as that’s usually given when someone really loves the recipe, but thank you!
Mom Wolf says
I have been trying to find a homemade version of French vanilla creamer. I’m going to try to make this with coconut milk instead of “cow” milk. Wish me luck, lol.
Lynne says
Thank you! I’d love to know how it turns out with the coconut milk. Please let me know as others might be interested in doing the same.
Sussanne says
Can I use lactose free milk for your coffee creamer. Everything in my world has to be lactose free dairy!
I’ve been looking for coffee creamer recipes thank you so much! I hate the price at stores especially lactose free ugh!!!
Lynne says
Sussanne, I have not used anything other than the ingredients listed in this recipe, so not sure about the taste, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. I just did a Google search for lactose free sweetened condensed milk and there was a La Lachera brand by Nestle, but not sure if they make it any longer as it’s out of stock at Walmart and Amazon. Maybe a sweetened coconut condensed milk could be used for it instead.
As I said, I haven’t made this creamer with these ingredients, so I can’t tell you with confidence that you’ll like the taste. If you do make it, I would love for you to leave me a comment telling us how it turned out because I’m sure others would be interested in doing the same.
Anonymous says
Since you can freeze milk I would think you could freeze the creamer in small batches.
